Poetry : Becoming Narcissa

Becoming Narcissa

It all changed when she served the meal to herself first,

When she decided that it was time to quench her own thirst,

She didn’t need the genie or the man on the white horse,

All those she depended on, the girl decided to divorce

As she selected them as resources, she recycled the men,

Unfazed, the girl repeated the same with the women,

Forming and breaking bonds with a snap of a finger

On things that discouraged, her gaze would never linger

The woman now knew who she was and what she deserved,

By her confidence and valor, all around her were unnerved,

Blood diamonds and palaces of gold now failed to impress

On her own Narcissa built an empire and became an empress

Clutching her heart in her hand, she had been told to cry,

But everything changed when she had decided to ask why,

She now steals the galaxies, the moon and the stars for herself,

The universe at her feet, she had finally found her sense of self
